If Baku, the capital city is the next booming metropolis, it is difficult to miss the contrast of the rural landscape just hours away from the blitz. Azerbaijan will surprise you with its contradictions.

The north-western Azerbaijan has a whole spectrum of scenic landscapes and fierce climactic zones, each demanding attention in its own way. The fields are full of wildflowers, there are large stretches of poppy fields, and the landscape will be a true inspiration for any impressionistic painting. If you want to venture in the north-western region you should be careful about your papers and your visa to Azerbaijan

Naxcivan seeped in Azeri culture will leave you stupefied with its architectural splendours like Momine Xatun, the famous Citadel and the Museum which is almost the heart of the city. The Carpet Museum is a beauty in itself.

XanSarayi is a vividly colourful palace. This famous palace which was used as the administrative building for Khan shows every bit of craftsmanship. Although most of the designs are floral, you will find heroic scenes depicted in the central dome.

Maiden’s Tower is the iconic architectural wonder of Baku. Its original date of construction is a matter of debate, but many experts believe that it was probably built in the 12th century. This place is full of stories and if you have a guide with you, you will be enthralled. More often it is said that this tower got its name from military impenetrability. You should be a little cautious when you are visiting all these places, because without a proper visa to Azerbaijan, you may have some trouble.
